How it's calculated

Annual pay is the hourly rate times hours per week times weeks worked per year. Full time is 40 hours and 52 weeks, or 2,080 hours, so a quick conversion is hourly × 2,080, or salary ÷ 2,080. Going the other way divides the salary by those hours. The figures are gross pay, before tax, insurance and retirement deductions.

Salary = Rate × Hours/week × Weeks/year Rate = Salary ÷ (Hours/week × Weeks/year)
What is $25 an hour as a salary?

$52,000 a year at 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, or about $4,333 a month. At 50 weeks it is $50,000.

Should I use 50 or 52 weeks?

Use 52 if your time off is paid, which is the usual case for salaried jobs. Use 50 (or fewer) if you are hourly and unpaid when you take time off or the business closes.

How does overtime change the picture?

Hourly workers earn 1.5× for hours over 40 a week in the US. Salaried exempt staff do not, so compare a salary offer against your hourly pay including typical overtime, not just the base rate.
