How it's calculated
Each letter grade is worth grade points on the 4.0 scale: A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, down to F = 0. Multiply each course’s points by its credits, add them up, and divide by the total credits. A 4-credit class therefore counts more than a 1-credit lab. The cumulative GPA blends this semester with your previous GPA weighted by the credits you had already earned.
What grade points does each letter get?
A 4.0, A− 3.7, B+ 3.3, B 3.0, B− 2.7, C+ 2.3, C 2.0, C− 1.7, D+ 1.3, D 1.0, F 0. Some schools give A+ a 4.3 or drop the minus grades; use your school's scale if it is published.
How do I calculate a weighted GPA for honors or AP classes?
Most high schools add 0.5 for honors and 1.0 for AP or IB to the grade points. Pick the next grade up or two for those courses, or ask your counsellor for the exact scale.
Do pass/fail or withdrawn courses count?
No. Pass/fail credits count toward graduation but not GPA, and a W carries no points. Leave their credits at 0 here.
